Bourbon vanilla is the name given to vanilla pods from the Vanilla planifolia orchid. It is the most widely cultivated type of vanilla. Vanilla planifolia is a climbing orchid originally from Mexico, which is now cultivated in various tropical regions. The name Bourbon comes from the island of Reunion, which used to be called Bourbon. The French started cultivating vanilla there. About half of the world's production today comes from Madagascar. Our Bourbon vanilla comes from the "Golden Triangle" in the north of Madagascar. We get the vanilla directly from a farming family and only offer the top quality.

Bourbon vanilla is the "typical" vanilla for most Europeans. Synthetic vanillin smells similar to vanilla, but it lacks the fine and complex taste of real vanilla. Unfortunately, products with high-quality vanilla extract or vanilla pulp are the exception in stores.
