Paprika powder is the dried and ground fruit of spice peppers, an annual plant that belongs to the nightshade family.
In the berry fruits, small, light yellow seeds sit on the inner partitions.
Its homeland is South America, but today it is mainly cultivated in Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Central America.
It is ideal for preparing goulash, soups, sauces, as well as meat, poultry, lamb and fish dishes.
Likewise, this spice also gives vegetable, rice and cheese dishes a subtle and aromatic touch.
As a rule of thumb, the more intense the red color, the milder the pepper.
A distinction is made between the following varieties:
Delicatessen pepper: This is without ribs and seeds, tastes mildly aromatic and is bright red.
Sweet peppers: This powder with little seeds and no ribs, tastes spicy with mild heat and is deep red.
Semi-sweet peppers: This powder with more seeds and without ribs tastes very aromatic, is significantly sharper than sweet peppers and yellowish red.
Hot peppers: This variety with ribs and seeds - with better qualities without ribs - tastes almost burning hot and is brownish red.
Heat-free delicacy or mild peppers: They are heat-free bred varieties that are very mild and digestible, but color deep red.
